Tourist and environmental guides of the Amiata propose going in woods and forests, crossing courses of water, visiting the caves and the ravines, crossing a territory rich in plants and animals and know the museums, the works of art, the traces of a present past still. And then the abetine of white fir, the natural reserves, the Road of the Chestnut and the endless wealths of a territory that it always has some surprises to reveal and that needs to be seen and enjoyed without hurry, with the maximum relax. To walk on Amiata, or to visit it on foot, or accompanied by the magic of the steam train, it is a spiritual experience, that conducts to the discovery of a sacred territory: an etrusco sanctuary that became in the Middle Ages the centre of an important cistercense community; in the 1800’s of a religious group from the socialist tones and today it is the headquarters of a Buddhist association. The mystical tensions are accompanied to the fertile nature of this earth.
28 OCTOBER: CHESTNUT TRAIN
Departure from the Chiusi Station to take part in the Festival of the chestnut in Castel del Piano.
A day in nature, that starts with a long walk in the woods where the chestnuts can be gathered and it is continued with lunching in restaurants of the town to taste the specialties of the mountain with the possibility of tastings of the local typical products.
One can admire the locomotive that is ran on an antique track, rare example of industrial archaeology.
1 NOVEMBER: TRAIN OF THR MINER AND THE CRASTATONE
A journey into time of history and traditions of Monte Amiata, accompanied by retired miners who have devoted a large part of their life to their job. The mines of Abbadia San Salvatore are part of the local and national historyl and knowing them is an intense and very touching experience.
Arrival to Monte Amiata drop-off and transfer by bus to the town.
Visiting of the medieval suburb, of the abbey and of the Mining Museum.
Possibility of tastings of typical products from the mountains

Participation in the festival of the “crastatone” in Piancastagnaio.
Departures from Siena at 8:30 am and return at 5:35 pm.
31 DECEMBER: NEY YEAR’S EVE TRAIN
A particular New Year’s Eve, by train, this time it’s not vintage to guarantee a warm feeling, across the Valley of Orcia to Sant’Angelo. On the train there is entertainment and during the ride a display of fireworks.
Grand dinner and dancing til the morning.
Departures from Siena at 5:00/6:00 pm and return at 6:00 am of January 1st ,2008.

The tickets are purchased on board of Trenonatura.

20 MAY: TRAIN OF THE FAUNISTIC PARK OF THE LABRO MOUNTAIN
The Faunistico Park of Monte Amiata is placed in a mountainous area with particular naturalistic and landscape merit, and it constitutes the ideal environment for the presence and the observation of numerous kinds of wild fauna. Free shuttle bus service to the park of Monte Labro. Visits to Faunistico Park: the wolves, the plants, the fallow deer and Monte Labro.
Departure from Siena at 8:30 am and return to Siena at 6:16 pm.
