Santa Fiora

“A landscape on the country”

SANTA FIORA:

Province of Grosseto.

Altitude mt. 687.

Inhabitants 2767.

It is 61 km far from Grosseto, 73 km from Siena and 66 km from Chiusi-Chianciano.

Hotels, restaurants and other facilities, in Santa Fiora, are of good quality.

Santa Fiora was the capital of a county branch of Aldobrandeschi and later Sforza-Attendolo and Sforza-Cesarini dukes. It was for many centuries the political and administrative capital of the Amiata. The country looks the plateau below from the bridge, its green parks. In the heart of Santa Fiora, under the old city, is the Peschiera, with its fresh water and its white swans swim there. The fractions that make up the town are Bagnolo, Bagnore and Selva.

Attractions: The historic centre divided into three “terzieri”: Castle Village and Montecatino; Aldobrandesca Rocca, the ancient Tower quadrangular; The Town Hall with the Clock Tower; Pieve of SS. Flora and Lucilla (patron of the country). Precious treasure of the Pieve are “terracotta robbiane”; Church of “Madonna della Neve”; “Peschiera”, used, as well as the breeding of trout and carp, even as a touristic itinerary. Also worthy of mention the musical season.
