Art The Church of San Stefano: - It’s the most important religious building in the village. In the chapel dedicated to the Virgin there were three different works of the Siena’s painting (Nowadays, the paintings are in the Montalcino’s Museum), in the paintings appear the Virgin in the throne with the baby and the painters are Lorenzo di Pietro, Pietro Lorenzetti and Simone Martini. Vecchietta’s Square - In the centre of the more ancient part of the village there is the Vecchietta’s square, the place where is the village council and different medieval buildings. This square is triangular and has a slope with the centre. The Church of Santa Maria Maddalena - It’s a church restored recently with a Romanic façade. The Church of San Marcello - This church was before probably the monastery’s church, after dedicated to Marcello Cervini, the new Pope that was elected on 1555. Bagni di San Filippo - Because of the thermal waters, it could be possible to build a spa in this area. It’s especially nice the white pit of the spa, where all the water born and slides around. From there you can visit as well the San Filippo’s cove, dug in only a big block. The tradition says that in this cove stayed refugee San Filippo Benzini in the 1227, to escape from the Pope’s new election. This cove is nowadays a pilgrimage place. Rocca di Tentennano’s Tower - This incredible Tower is placed in the top of a hill of Rocca d’Orcia’s village. From there you can see great views from the Val d’Orcia, one of the most typical and beautiful areas in the Tuscany, for that the Tower was a strategic placement, from the IX to the XIV century. It’s a typical medieval fortress made it in the 853. The Church of San Biagio - Built in the 1648 and rebuilt on the 1795 by design of the architect Leonardo de Vegni. The interior of the church has three naves. It has also an altar and some frescoes of the Virgin (XVII century). Eremo Del Vivo - The San Marcello parish and the orator’s annex of San Bartolomeo, called like the Eremo del Vivo, they are two holy buildings in Castiglione d’Orcia. The San Marcello parish is today completely turned also in its orientation. Consecrated in 1726, it was dedicated to the pontiff II Marcello, the new elected Pope. The oratory of San Bartolomeo, called Ermicciolo, was probably the first placement of the Eremo del Vivo, its creation is attributed to San Romualdo in the beginning of the XI century. The small building has only a nave concluded with a semicircular apse. To emphasize the rich decorative device of the façade which presents in the superior part some series of hanging arcatelle supported by shelfs and two columns which divide the decorative complex in three parts. Also the apse presents a crowning of hanging arcatelle. Church of San Simeone - The San Simeone church is a holy building situated in Castiglione d’Orcia. Consecrated in 1633, the sober duecentesca façade presents a portal with arc reduced to sixth. There is a seicentesco Crucifixion made by Frabrizio. In the left wall are visible remains of frescos of the XIV century, linkable to the Fredi Bartolo way, the Madonna of the Mercy and the Christ’s Baptism. Church of San Sebastiano - The church has only a nave and has an unusual façade which presents a mistilineo crowning of the XVII century in the decorations of the shelfs of the portal. On the greater altar a cloth of the XVII century depicting San Sebastiano martyr is preserved, there are some copies of the Sodoma today in the Uffizi’s Museum of Florence.
