Castel del Piano

Welcome to the heart of Monte Amiata, the ideal tourist destination in every season!  It is suitable for every kind of traveller. Castel del Piano offers a fantastic scenery of a medieval village sorrounded by vineyards and olive and chesnut groves. It rises on the west slope of Monte Amiata in a territory of relevant cultural interest.

637 m above sea leavel, the village is near the famous towns of Grosseto and Siena. Castel del Piano has a really good location: it is only a dozen of kilometres far from the mountain top, so it is perfect for nature and sport lovers, for those who aim at discover off-the-beaten path places, unspoilt woods, pictoresque villages, for those who prefer admire either evocative religious buildings or fascinating monuments.

Within its medieval walls you can partecipate in typical events such as the most traditional “Palio delle Contrade” on the 8th September. You can also plan a walking tour, an horse trekking or a wine- and olive- tasting!

In winter, the slopes of the mountain get covered with snow and the town provides you with several skiruns and ski-lift facilities. In spring, maybe you have the best that Castel del Piano can offer: green rolling hills, flowery gardens and huge chesnut groves are perfect for trekking. In summer you can enjoy relaxed walks under the shadows of the chesnut trees, embork on take part to long distance walking tour or go trekking. You can choose from a wide range of itineraries which distinguish themselves from the difficulty. In autum you have the chance to partecipate in the grape harvest, visit an olive press and savour the countless local products.
