Arcidosso’s territory is covered by  beech woods and chestnut grove that are important for Arcidosso’s economy and gastronomy. Every month of October there is the famous event  ”Castagna in Festa“: this event recalls the popular traditions and folkloristic habits of Arcidosso’s inhabitants. During this event, you can go along the itineraries through the historical streets with points of tasting and the points of the local  product’s sale. You can take part  to the visit of  the “Chestnut wood” and also to the antique-dealing exhibition.

OTHER EVENTS: 

22 of December: “Christmas all together”- there are many concerts with  musical band and the Adoration of the three Wisemen

1 of January: “Torchlight Procession” in the village and antique-dealing exhibition.

4 of February: “Solidarity’s Lunch”.

1 of April: “Music Festival on Monte Amiata”

6 of May: “Spring fair” and the ” Street of Grasses” where you can take part to botanic excursion and you can observe many spontaneous flowers…It is beautiful to live a contact with nature.

3 of June:”Montagnando” is a day for the wood, the water and, in general, for the landscapes: you can walk through the paths of Monte Amiata. At the end of the particular event there is a lunch with local products.

4 of August: “Writers to drink” there is a “Party of Wine” where many writers plump up the taste of wine and they  show their books in  the famous”Aldobrandesco Castle”.

24/25/26 of August: “Religious feast”- there is a solemn procession to “Madonna Incoronata”‘sanctuary.

Historical-Cultural-Religious ITINERARIES :

  • The First itinerary( two hours) : We can see the historic centre of Arcidosso and in particular:- “Corso Toscana” and the famous “Aldobrandesco Castle” that is in the north-part of historic centre. This itinerary offers the possibility to improve your knowledge about the Castle..Let’s go telling a short story of the Castle…

The  Aldobrandesca Fortress was built during the Medieval age but Siena’s inhabitants, during the IV century, tried to conquer the place and they took it in 1331; from this year , Arcidosso and its  fortress became a part of “Republic of Siena”.

Actually, The Castle is established by  impressive building with two architectonic structures characterized by the quadrangular  section. Moreover there is a tower that has a set of bows on the top…

  • The Second itinerary (three hours): the departure is from historic centre- This is a religious itinerary where you can take part to a religious life of Arcidosso. You can see the S.Leonardo church, S. Niccolò church,Madonna delle grazie, S.Andrea church and Madonna Incoronata church:after that, we can see also the three doors of access, for example

S.Niccolò church: it was built in the XII century with an only nave.The  present church has a “Basilicale plan” and it is divided into three naves. Its original aspect belong to Romanic style.

S.Leonardo church:it was built by “Benedictine nuns” in 1228. It belongs to Romanic style.

S.Andrea church: this church is famous for housing  a fresco “Vergine in trono”by the  Sienese Scholl.

“Madonna Incoronata” church:this church is famous for the procession during the Medieval Age, in particular in 1348, to invoke the end of pestilence.
